Cutters Records: Mid Year Update.

New release Voltage is out now. A quality 12" from the label, its mixes have been far and wide and while I haven't been able to get my hands on my favourite one (the Ilija Rudman mix) they're all  still a solid piece of cosmic harmony.

Das Moth has just released his 2nd volume of Tokio Disko - just to keep us salivating while those heels shuffle under the scatterd mirrorball light. His EP is currently awaiting some remixes before outlining a release. Can hardly wait.

Bonus: Das Moth Remix of his new band's latest recording sessions.

Are you Ready?

Some great re/post/pre/edit action here courtesy of Mr Beedle on a colorful disco number from Elton - a hercules on the dancefloor.

Are You Ready For Love? (Ashley Beedle Re-Edit) - Elton John

Cinephile Vol.18

Sofia Coppola
Once again Sofia delivers on what is something 'Somewhere' being what I expected and yet allowing it to be so much more. Out later this year (Sept - Dec.)

Incase you were wondering about that last track as much as I:

Pull up to the Bumper: Oz Music.

In light of the incumbent fanaticism and fervent bandwagoning that will be taking its course over the next month (or less), I have given myself an opportunity to take a gander at the local music scene coming (jsut another tip off to the Canyons bois) out of this great country (albeit not my native one).

Canyons.

Do all - say all, play all, score all - these guys have it down. It's not hype, not style, but class with a stylus. An unrelenting eclecticism and hoarding of dance and disco, baleric and beatbox, tropical and sub tropical, I think I'm starting to pick on their wavelengths.  With their class(y monikers) and moreso music taste - their original and remixing/producing output is sensually tingling, every new track, mix, dub or remix is in my itunes and I enjoy them all equally.

Tame Impala - Skeleton Tiger (Retamed by Canyons)

The latest offspring under their label Hole In The sky (H.I.T.S) is the previsouly tenable modular bound(?) previously known as Tennis, reformed as Tortoiseshell (The vocabulary of HITS and Canyons, exponentially grounds itself in nouns al la 'Pond' etc). The sydney band thave their first single THis Girl out on monday and more material to follow.

Tortoiseshell - This Girl (Canyons Dub)

Go the Soccer+Kangaroos!

Juggers spread their wings.

With the Midnight Juggernauts releasing their new LP just this past week, my interest has been more than pricked by this sudden fresh new material. Simultaneous revelation of Turkish Prison, a dude behind one of the stronger Voltage 'All Night' remixes  (yet to be posted) & one of the better Dystopia mixes, turns out to be the guitarist and sideman from the Juggers, and upon internet digging, discovered a trio of Vital Signs remixes, one by every member of the band. Featuring frontman Vincent as 'Instanbul Kebab' and drummer Daniel Stricker with is native mix Nothing amazing about these as ground breaking material, but they are interesting takes on the single and have their own strengths.

New Order - Age Of Consent

(There is some atrocious mixing at the end (it was recorded live), however I think some quality of tracks makes up for it.)

Last name Ever, first name Greatest.

The Michael Zager Band.

White Disco, so classy it striped every social sect of its curtains and invited everyone round to his place for some peace and love. For the people, he makes Disco, and for Mr Zager, we Disco Dance, boogie chug and glide to the soaring tunes.

First heard this one during a barely attended to Canyons set at a regrettable (although not entirely, after all it was my first experience of Canyons, a blessing in disguise) unsavory music festival that featured the likes of Deadmau5 (not a hater, just not my scene).

The lyrics were circling in my head for days after the festival and after some simple searching, unravelled the tapestry of white disco to reveal Zager in the middle of it. "Your body, my body, everybody move your body" Pure and unadulterated Disco. The Canyons vinyl sleeve artwork was a the biggest indicator if not the simplest, wit three large repeated titles "DISCO< DISCO< DISCO" on top of each other.

The (ah ah eh eh) Let's All Chant (ooooh ooooh) is explosive in it's instrumentals; there's a bassoon/clarinet, synth harpsichord, trumpet, and piano solo that features in the last 3rd of this 7 minute journey of 45rpm dancefloor groove. If these movements don't get you on the dance floor - nothing will.

You can find the original quite easily but heres a more Beat Electric type post:

The Michael Zager Band - Let's All Chant

The Michael Zager Band - Let's All Chant (Disco Version)

The original is far superior in its instrumentals and overall, the better track.

Collections of sunlight between the Rain.

Terjelator - an ode to the "Remaster Of the Universe" with is track by Kacic Kulman's Five.

What else would the world Remaster Of the Universe be like without some alter ego Wade Nichols to get you through the groove.

Some real funky undulating g-tar with strong presence of brass to score your next walking down main street.

Alot of good music I'm listening to right now - too content to post!
