The Avalanches. Something to wet your whistle with.

RE-EDIT
In anticipation of the tentative October release of their sophomore album, while delving into the abyss of Avalanches speculation that has featured online for the last few years, I found this, 'When I Met You'. It's quite simply, an album -featuring- the Gimix mix - a mix sequence of tracks that were the inspirational basis/foundation for 'Since I Left You' together with the original album. The actual splicing of their original material from 'Since I Left You' coalseced with the Gimix was completed by a couple of Brits that then packaged this little bootleg album to boot. They made alot of dosh no doubt.
Never the less, It's a great listen to all the way through. Nothing groundbreaking in the way of these golden oldie re-edits, but the album as a stand alone mix is emblematic of classical Avalanche panache and grace in track selection, only the gods of which could master.
Hats off to these Brits!

Live At Dominoes - The Avalanches
A personal favorite of mine.

Left Field Of The Lowlands.

A great recording of something a little diagonal of the music trend around here, but I hope we can, on occasion, gain the guidance of our blog audience while the blog traverses all boundaries of genre while discouraging misguided online blog genres (besides whereby describing how something sounds).

Enough blog postulation, Here it is, a simple cover by the interweb's most loved band of '09, Phoenix, with their rendition of a comforting - at times Ben Kweller-esque -acoustic dream.

Moustache Matters

Hi All, Im happy to announce my arrival to Toxic at the invitation of Ben and hope that i can spread some cool Jams and ideas into your small modern day brains, So here it goes

I've spent the last 2 days "acquiring" a Old Italo Disco and NRG compilation which is originally titled "Old Italo Disco & NRG" but it has some really cool tracks on it from people like Yvonne Kay, Click and Gino Soccio (who i believe had a few tracks in one of the Grand theft Auto games i'd guess Vice City) and a whole lot of other tracks, but the best part is that the majority of the tracks on the album are 12" mixes, re-edits or remixes so very handy if your got djing in mind but otherwise its still a great listen if your fortunate enough to come across the album, the pic above is the cover if it helps, and heres some of the stand out tracks:
1. Gino Soccio - Magic

2. Click - Duri Duri (the album has a re edit but i cant find it on here)

Anyway hope i've brought somthing to the table that you all find appealing so thanks for reading peace out and Keep Funky.

*Awesome.

Castaways and lovers meet, then kiss in tropicana’s heat.

Steel Drums. Invented to invigorate, and procure the sounds of crystal water, melting with white sand across a wooden jetty under a beaming sun. Its time like these summer is in full flight and leaves no reprieve for the hour hands, where shade becomes the refuge to digest the music humming in your ears. There are semi-clad lades, panama hats, aviator sunglasses and that far-away crescent light of all your worries drifting out of reach. Timeless and infallible.

To convey such postulation further, some fine examples of the aforementioned cultural and seasonal inclinations.

Love The Night Away (Tiedye Mix) - DJ Kaos
Last One Awake (Friend Version) - Memory Tapes.

Arithmatix! - A special Dose of Dance.

Michael Di Francesco's Arithmatix! project has recently come to fruition among the slew of branched out individual work of the Van She Krew (re: Matt Van Schie's Saturday Night and Tomek Archer's Industrial Design work).

Arithmatix! takes a deep Italo throng approach with his Basanov rendition (space-aged disco-chugging badassery), feeling the Moog and Korg as the weapon of choice while his synth work and remixery is mastered in the form, reminiscent of early Van She Tech, with his treatment of Dragonette's track.

Mario Basanov - Do You Remember (Aritmatix! Mix)
Dragonette - Pick Up The Phone (Arithmatix! Remix)

All very solid work from a dedicated and talented individual.

Long Live Italo Love.

BONUS: Lime - Baby We're Gonna Love Tonight

FLASH Dancing.

Finding my way around the dedicated disco, beat, groove and nostalgic blogs of yesteryear, there are a few gems that have delivered the greatest deal of mean meet disco delights! or something like it. There is obviously a growing appreciation to the simple dynamics of such tunes, but ultimately the chemistry of groovy beats, slap and slinging basslines, typically of the thick'n'juicy variety, seldom disappoint.

We've got edits here to transform any dire night on the DF into a spiraling swirling sensation of tropical proportions. Ya know, Its how we do it, From Todd Terje's biceps to the down low deep of Rockwell up to the mindless 'woogie' of boogie.

I Wanna Dance (Tangoterje Mix) - Aquarius

Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell

Loco Motion - LSB

I'm gonna keep posting my finds from these dedicated souls. Stay frisky, and busy on that DF!

Flight Facilities. FF.

Flight Facilities will be the bros from Bang Gang 12inches generating most buzz this new year. Recently appearing (prematurely) on Aeroplane's December mix, their first original track, Crave You, has stolen the minds of many bloggers and fans alike. It's a solid piece that reminds me of the beautiful basics and of a song, and its many dynamics. Th gliding soft vocal, the simple and sophisticated breakdowns, with classic FF saxophone thrown in for musical magic. It will no doubt be the Destination (re: Damn Arms) of 2010, which means alot of local and international remixes (SCOOP!), covers and renditions. Evidence to the fact we're going to see alot of highs and lows of this beautiful track.

gif

Besides this however, they're in production overdrive of their own material and others, remixing labelmates Like Whoah! who are in turn to release a Ted&Francis cover of Crave You. All work, to generate alot of play.

"Crave You out March with loooots of remixes. Hope you can stand the wait." - FF
