Harrison Jr. and the Golden Gate bridge.

It sounds like an adventure of Roald Dahl's, alas it is a musical contribution in the vein of local dancefloor killer tunes mixed in with the spirit of the Castro of SF coming together in a fresh virtuosity of Dsico.

This spritely young man, hails from Sydney's northern suburbs where with a few gees worth of equipment, has turned his blog hack into an act, making it into the Fbi's top 5 of their underage sets comp. He is by far my preferred of the 5 for reasons beyond my opinionated tastes and the fact I've discovered so many hard to find, rocking rarites on his blog. His entered Fbi set is his mix "San FranDisco" and it's right up there with the recent Bang Gang 12" weekly mix episodes from the likes of Flight Facilities, Cassian and TVITC favourite, G.L.O.V.E.S. Featuring some Aussie love and my favourite track of Lifelike's, It really is tres cool listening. A standout breakout from Harrison Jr. could cure just about cure any musical blue - after all, he lives in San FranDisco where you get yo ass down to the Castro every night and boogie down. Who doesn't want to live there?

What's news on this delightful Monday - week of awesome.

"Procure enough musical embellishment and you may find yourself, no doubt, part of an insatiable thirst for fecund music and its subtle remixed nuances."

To start you off, lets start with an example of Classixx recent production - in the vein of chilled out wet strings of terry-cloth, the duo's incongruous means that saw a byway take on Yacht's Psychic City returns with a more Acapulco Nights touch that graced the Holy Ghost! Most recently, Ladyhawke has been attaining the level of blog hype La Roux demanded  a few months ago. Met with early success in Modular's backyard, she leapt in to the limelight of the US and UK respectively and is returning home, perhaps victorious but more likely as the apotheosis of her 'goddess among thieves' appeal, the timely Classixx rendition of her most recent release, 'Magic' holds the least surprise, but an acclimatized enjoyment nonetheless.

Ladyhawke - Magic (Classixx Version)

On the other side of the menu for this monday, might I be so bold as to share with you another modular/ Bang Gang release, Toecutter's 'Best Party Ever'. I've heard numerous variations on 12" mixes and live sets recently, most commonly in the presence of Cassian, and I must comment there are clear winners and losers from the bunch of remixed services released. However of the more technically savvy, Flight Facilities show off once more their niche for ingenious and fresh noize posturing, sampling and manipulation of track that proves that these guys are typical winners with short term fame.

Toecutter - Best Party Ever (Flight Facilities Remix)

There's a Light Year rendition somewhere out there that is 'pure party'.

No energy or hate.

Falling in and out through alot of music lately, that I would imagine is a repercussion of pondering the future. I'm just tres excited/ anxious for the next coupla months - it should involve alot of change and many new experiences. Nevertheless I'm just trying to get my head around things. Floating into lo-fi and home-made songs with lyrical kindness and sensuality, its refreshing to be enslaved by a soothing, simply layered structure rather than something that pervades your personal space, instead something that preserves it. Floating is the best example of such mind wanderings.
A lazy sunday post at its best.

Incase you didn't know...

LIFE imitating art.

He's been a repeat offender on the itunes and I finally can't let alot more time pass before I get to post anyhing on him. LIFElike His remixery service is churning them out like butter rendering most artists "Lifelike'd", from Fleetwood Mac to Empire of the Sun, Erol Alkan to La Roux and thats just the well known names. With his dark disco dubs and pulsating mix overlays to any track, you know there's only one expectation when it comes to one of his remixes - atmospheric perfection. Hesitantly an 80's nightride at first, it becomes clear many of his originals in fact spawns the sound so prevalent in his remixes. His own instrumentals coalesce with the simple yet effective editing of the original track and any quick quipped synth or electro pop sound becomes immediately dismembered and laid bare as a 6 minute extended experience. There's alot of Lifelike out there so reach out and become subdued.

Rock-it-ta-bill-at-eeee 2.0

Its been a long time between drinks (and orgasms) waiting for some more Sébastien Tellier. Last time we caught up with him he was hoarding himself to an island dressed as a lovemaking zeus and deity while we tuned up the Aeroplane remix of his raunchy Kilometer. Now I present more journeys of 'The Tellier experience', with an interview and live performance. I had never considered 'Divine' to be that much of a 'get down and party tonight' type, but Sébastien proves otherwise. In typical frenchmen-hair crush style, I guess this is what his idea of 'energy' is all about, the audience fornicating with each other. Once again he proves himself demigod of sensual ordiance and 'energy'.

Wake me when I'm alive and kicking.

I went on a walk today for the first time in a long time - wearing shorts. Spring was in full effect and it became crystal clear by the numerous courting birds, the waxing and rubbing odeciduous trees revealing the greens and reds of early growth, leaf and flower that would blossom all summer. Meanwhile I was chilling to some recently acquired tunes that more or less made me focus on my springtime surroundings, the echoes of summer becoming louder and louder - more apparent to the eye.

I spent most of this week in bed with different variations of sickness. When I'm sick like this, I'm usually met with erratic sleep patterns, weird, highly abnormal and sometimes disturbing dream waves and lastly, a strange knack for music that my feverish aching head could actually concisely pick and enjoy listening to. However ironically enlightening it was to listen to these great tracks like this, never again. Its not worth it. My bed is a bed of sickness now instead of sleep. Lame.

Yacht - Psychic City (Classixx Remix)

Pains of Being Pure of Heart - Higher than the Sun (Others In Conversation Remix)

Attention Please.

More Svedish excellence
blended with one of my new favourites. The previously admired The Sound of Arrows have produced this video to accompany the official release of their new EP which contains this Fear of Tigers remix. Fusing childlike 80's space nostalgia (the film it samples from is a golden oldie) with the dreamlike persona of the original track, Fear of Tigers has struck gold and I can't wait to get my hands on it. This is so tres cool that I think its the best video to accompany anything in a long time.
Go me!

If you can guess what movie it samples, We'll send you a special TVITC prize.

Glowingly.

Neon Indian is the recent conception of Summer classic filters and otherworldly electronic synth - but more so sound. The tunes of Vega and ex-Ghosthustler Alan Palomo and his band of Neon Indian has had a breakout season with 'Deadbeat Summer' signaling their sprawling intentions into the hearts and minds of the american teen sweating and refreshing. However before I commit overkill to the 'blogged to death' aforementioned, I instead have come across their remix of Au Revoir Simone. This remix is alittle example of glo-fi remixing pleasure, taking the soft-felt croon of ARSimone's vocals with a wavy-synth touch over a hazy production of glittering refractions of faded static noise.
Really a bookend to summer, beginning or end. (Neon Indian to tour Oz next Jan)

So I thought I'd also post alittle unknown but once blogged, American-College-student-artist Retro Dream. With a sweet melody of electro it will be a great reflection ('Nostalgic' is the title of the track) of the summer at your door step.

Shazam and the dirt is gone!

Venture successfully westfold with your insanity still intact across the Nullarbor, you'll spritely find yourself in Western Australia. A talent pool in recent times, it's become a favourite of 'right-now' label Modular, with Tame Impala filling the new ground rock void, while a little-known 19 year old Dejaying producer - Shazam! covered the Bang Gang 12" angle.

He's been routinely breaking necks these past 12 months but I think his true calling came when Breakbot - the french touch maestro, featured Shazam's 'Luckier' on his minimix. Truly a musical compliment and apropos selection for the respective mix.

He still recall's his big break, when Daft Punk were touring at the end of '07 and Modular booking rang him up to tell him he was supporting their Perth show. What a break.

Care not, for he's a poolside slinger of tunes and they are a great meal ticket frenzy making collection of Australian summer hues best enjoyed by the pool....or during a balmy 10 am morning in bed. Your choice.

Enjoy.

Glove me kind sir!

Let's kick start your weeknights with a post that will tempt ur salivating tongue to whiplash your tonsils and expell the words:

"GLOVES!"

God this guy is impressive and continues the new and transforming club scene tunes on behalf of Bang Gang 12" and now Modular. It's refreshing when you have these individuals who hail from a technically savvy and musically capable background (in this case the late Damn Arms) and proceed to express subjective musical tastes and create original sounds - after all its a musicians club scene he produces . Yama Indra (his father named him) and his moniker G.L.O.V.E.S is by far a perfect prodigy of such TVITC theorems. His musical tastes are "RnB (old & new), 70’s Jazz, 70’s Psych" along with an extensive knowledge and fledging for disco and house. With this infused, his latest 12" P.Y.X is a stunner. Aurally giving birth to the old disco and house vs the slab baselines of a club beat, his concoction is fresh and entertaining.

Here's a link to an interview and his exclusive Asian Man Dan blog mix:

tracklist:
1. We In Music - Now That The Love Has Gone (Les Rythmes Digitales Mix)
2. Bottin - No Static
3. Candido - Jingo (David Rodriguez 12-Inch Mix)
4. Todd Terje - Eurodans
5. Zombi - Sapphire (Escort Remix)
6. S-Express - Theme From S-Express
7. Crazy P - Stop Space Return (Unabombers Dub Mix)
8. The Scare - Could Be Bad (Gloves Remix)

Kavinsky - A tattletale.

Just be sure to check that next time you walk in to a McDonalds after a big night, there are no international dejays there.

"He was absolutely wasted and kept shouting “I’m angry!” and pointing at his stomach. Only later did we realise his French accent probably meant he was saying ‘hungry’…."

Alittle shooting star.

Can you imagine gliding over - soaring over the pacific to a tropical mountain that spurts out, like a volcano. Amongst the island, its own diverse and new adventures awaiting you. I guess when The Sound of Arrows made their own tunes, they were imagining northern hemisphere fjords that met psychedelic norse tropics for a dynamic adventure. Either way its ecstatic and elated energy levels in the songs that engulf all the sensory diodes that predict and ponder your future, not caring where you came from instead, all eyes on the promised, smiling destination you were approaching.

They film little mini-videos that accompany and are part n parcel with the music. I guess this is what they imagine when they playback their own tunes. Jealous. But in the end its the musical journey the song takes you on. Like watching every particle in a fireworks show, so much beauty and so little time.

"oh how the turn table..."

Oh My! just bust a move at "the nightclub"Home! tonight and witness some eccentric Frenchie spin some vinyl in the fashion of post-jock and life aftershock aesthetic with ripped jeans 'n' a carcass wearing a varsity with the letter K. He'll be the one playing a gameboy classic with the volume turned up real loud, no one can hear you scream. It's that kinda dark alley way - black hole diverting - xenomorph escaping type of mis en scene (a la Alien/s). I'm ready to be scared shitless and hanker down into a drunken state of disturbed paranoia.

Kavinsky is playing. Dare I push the self destruct button?

M83 - A what'Up date

TVITC acquaintant, Anthony Gonzalez of M83 finally has some time off at his seaside home of Antibes, France. With no more scheduled touring after finishing a last gasp festival tour that took them from Finland, to the US and Japan, the wheels of motion that began M83's tour at the beginning of 2008 have finally braked.

It was, however, a very eventful past few months for the Anthony and the gang. During their Columbus Ohio show, the second last of their north american dates, Anthony enthusiastically called for the patrons to come up on stage with him as such the atmosphere during the set had built up to this point. For 5 minutes numerous 'kids' took up the opportunity before being suddenly banished by a "violent" security person and his aid. *Something Anthony took a zealous disliking too - "Bad vibes". Reading and watching about this kinda makes me jealous that I didn't witness this intrinsic energy first hand. The aftermath at the end of the set was captured here:

And a quick guerilla 'next day interview' where we briefly hear about M83's next projects:
